Speakeasy Appoints Andrew Hyde
as New Chief Financial Officer

SEATTLE July 19, 2005— Speakeasy (www.speakeasy.net), the nation's largest independent broadband provider, today announced the appointment of Andrew Hyde as its chief financial officer effective July 18, 2005. Hyde will assume the responsibilities of current CFO, John Duncan, who has announced his plans to retire this year.

Hyde joins Speakeasy with more than 25 years of financial expertise with both high-growth start-ups and very large public enterprises. Most recently, Hyde has served as a consultant to a number of start-up technology firms in the San Francisco Bay area, helping them establish funding and financial infrastructure strategies. Prior to founding his consulting business, he was the founding CFO for Salesforce.com, where he was instrumental in creating the startup's infrastructure, helping to establish the business model, and securing nearly $50 million in private equity. Prior to Salesforce.com, Hyde was CFO and head of Sales for Snap, Inc. during its launch as an independent portal entity and its spin-off from CNET. He also spent four years serving as CFO and led worldwide strategy development for MiTek, Inc., now a Berkshire Hathaway Company. Hyde began his career and spent 15 years with General Electric, eventually managing finance for the company's Lighting Systems division. Hyde has been President of the San Francisco Chapter of Financial Executives International and a Charter Member of Bay CFO. He holds an Executive MBA from Columbia University and a bachelor's degree from Principia College. Hyde and his family will be relocating from the San Francisco area to Seattle.

"First, I want to thank John Duncan for his four years of service at Speakeasy as CFO. John played a key role in the dramatic growth our company has achieved over the past four years and his contributions will be missed. We are excited to welcome Andrew Hyde to our team. Andrew's experience in both growing companies and in managing mature businesses is an important addition to the Speakeasy team as we continue our rapid growth," said Bruce Chatterley, Speakeasy's president and CEO. "His insight and leadership will be critical as we strive to maximize our business potential and take advantage of increasing market opportunities." Speakeasy is experiencing rapid growth and is on track to grow revenues between 25 and 30% annually.
